Senwelo

I have been blessed to travel and serve in Zimbabwe, Haiti and Botswana. I served as part of a special American delegation to Botswana where I participated in a discussion about the health of the country with the First Lady and the Minister of Health.  It was during a luncheon with the country’s First Lady, Mma Masisi, that the First Lady asked one of her state women to give me a “Botswana” name. Receiving a Bostwana name is a high honor as it means that you are an accepted member of the country. As this was my first time meeting this stateswoman, I was curious to see what name she would give me. I was given the name “Senwelo,” (Sin-well-o) which means “a woman who others come to drink from.” The translated meaning is a wise woman who others seek for assistance and council. I was floored!! The name is a perfect fit and it sounds beautiful when spoken. I love my Bostwana name!
